The illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed black slave, Martin was born in Lima, Peru (1579). Despite the racism of his time, he joined the Dominican order as a servant. He possessed gifts of healing, bilocation, and famously made a dog, cat, and mouse eat peacefully from the same bowl.
